Muscle Sparing Robotic Assisted Knee Replacement

Muscle Sparing Robotic Assisted Knee Replacement

WHAT IS MUSCLE SPARING V CONVENTIONAL APPROACH

Muscle sparing or subvastus approach to knee replacement is currently the most least invasive way to perform knee replacement. The typical surgical approach is outlined in the picture above as a purple line that represents the conventional medial PARAPATELLAR approach that cuts the quadriceps tendon and seperates the muscle to get expose of the knee. The less invasive SUBVASTUS muscle and tendon sparing approach is outlined in yellow that enters the knee under the quadriceps and muscle to gain exposure. The tendon and muscle is lifted up to enter the knee. The tendon and muscle are not violated as in the conventional approach. This leads to less pain and faster recovery.
